The expert warned about the danger of a contaminated kitchen hood
In the absence of regular cleaning, a kitchen hood can become a source of dangerous microorganisms and toxins. This was announced on November 11 by Maria Zolotareva, Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Biotechnology and Industrial Pharmacy at RTU MIREA.
"The internal surfaces of the hood, including the fan and filters, are gradually covered with a dense layer of fat, which is an ideal breeding ground for the development of a wide range of microorganisms," she said in an interview with the newspaper.Ru»
According to the expert, fatty deposits accumulate on the inner surfaces of the hood — the fan and filters — over time, which serve as a breeding ground for bacteria and mold fungi. Such microorganisms can cause allergies, bronchial asthma, and intestinal disorders if the particles enter food or indoor air.
In addition to the biological threat, a contaminated hood also poses a technical risk: the grease film reduces the efficiency of the device, overloads the engine and can lead to its breakdown.
Zolotareva recommended cleaning the hood at least once every three to four weeks, using special alkaline products that dissolve stubborn impurities without the need to use abrasives. It is important to wear protective gloves and a mask, and after treatment, thoroughly wash off the remaining chemicals.
Earlier, on August 6, gastroenterologist Alexandra Metelina told Izvestia about the relationship between the health of the gastrointestinal tract and mood. According to her, scientists call the gut the second brain. There are over 100 million nerve cells in the walls of the digestive tract. This is the enteric nervous system, it is autonomous, regulates digestion. In addition, the enteric nervous system interacts with the brain through the so-called "gut—brain" axis.
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
