It will become easier for Russians to compare the cost of products from different manufacturers if the price per 1 kg is indicated in stores, says Oleg Abelev, an economist and head of the analytical department at Rikom-Trust. In an interview with the Newspaper. On November 11, he noted that a single weight measure would increase transparency and reduce the risk of misleading customers due to price tags for 100 grams or packaging.

"The first advantage of such an initiative is to increase transparency and ease of price comparison. <...> The second advantage is to reduce the risk of misleading, because unscrupulous sellers often use price tags with a value per 100 grams, per package," Abelev emphasized.

The economist added that it will also simplify cost control and budget planning. However, there is a risk that stores and manufacturers will reduce the range of small and non-standard packages.

"Then it will simply be unprofitable for manufacturers and stores to offer goods in small packages, non—standard packages, if they have to specify a high price per 1 kg everywhere," the expert explained.

Earlier, on November 6, it was reported that deputies of the Fair Russia faction submitted to the State Duma a bill on the marginal margin of retail chains of 15% in order to stabilize food prices. According to the document, the margin on socially significant goods reaches 10-100%, and on non—food and individual foodstuffs - 200-300%.
