- The Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the EU called the restriction on the issuance of visas to citizens discriminatory.
The decision of the European Union (EU) to restrict the issuance of visas to Russian citizens is discriminatory. This was announced on November 10 by the press service of the Permanent Mission of Russia to the EU.
"This decision of the European Commission, which, as follows from its press release, was supported by all EU member states in the Visa Committee, is discriminatory in its essence and cannot but cause regret," the agency said in a message on the VKontakte social network.
It is noted that the EU's actions contradict earlier statements, which stated that the restrictions would not affect ordinary citizens.
The Russian Permanent Representative to the EU also recalled that all OSCE member states, including the EU states, are obliged to "facilitate trips to their countries by encouraging the provision of appropriate opportunities."
According to the agency, the EU made such a decision due to alleged sabotage, disinformation and attacks by Russia on EU countries.
"All this indicates the obvious fear of those who make such decisions regarding the continuation of tourist exchanges and contacts between ordinary people. After all, then the citizens of the EU countries will be able to see firsthand that the information about Russia disseminated by the European bureaucracy does not correspond to reality," the Russian Permanent Representative said in a statement.
