- The Ministry of Finance explained the procedure for restoring access to the mobile Internet
After returning to Russia, access to the mobile Internet and SMS can be restored independently at any time. On November 10, the Ministry of Finance announced that the operator would send a special link to the subscriber to confirm the use of the SIM card.
"When a SIM card enters the territory of Russia from abroad, it must be confirmed that it is used by a person, and not embedded in a drone. Until then, the mobile Internet and SMS messages on this SIM card will be temporarily blocked," the department's Telegram channel explained.
A 24-hour "cooling-off period" is provided for Russian subscribers if the SIM card has been inactive for 72 hours or after returning from international roaming. In case of blocking, the user will receive an SMS notification and will be able to restore access via a link from the operator or by calling the call center.
"The innovations are aimed at ensuring the safety of Russian citizens. SIM cards with mobile Internet can be inside enemy UAVs and used for their navigation. Temporary lockdowns will increase protection from drones," the Ministry of Finance emphasized.
Earlier that day, it was reported that the government commission on legislative activity approved a draft law exempting telecom operators from liability in the event of a communications blackout at the request of the special services in the event of a threat of drone attacks. The document provides for the right to temporarily suspend services in order to protect citizens and infrastructure.
