Parishioners in Ukraine demanded the release of Priest Lukash from the shopping mall
Parishioners of the church of the Cherkasy New Martyrs and Confessors in the town of Smele, Cherkasy region, came to the shopping mall (a territorial recruitment center, an analogue of the military enlistment office in Ukraine) demanding the release of the rector of the local church of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) Alexei Lukash, abducted for the purpose of mobilization. This was reported on November 10 in the Union of Orthodox Journalists (UOJ).
"We are at the building of the shopping mall where our priest is located. He was illegally abducted as part of the mobilization. We demand his release," the parishioners said in a video posted on the UOJ website.
According to them, the priest is experiencing serious health problems, and his mobilization was illegal.
On November 7, the UOJ reported that the staff of the shopping mall forcibly took away the priest Alexei Lukash. He was detained during the service, and after that he was immediately taken to the military enlistment office. The abbot's wife had to call the police because she needed to give her husband vital medicines. Currently, the woman is not in touch. The UOJ pointed out that representatives of the Cherkassy diocese of the UOC had not been provided with any documents confirming his priestly rank or the legality of his detention.
