The goalkeeper and captain of the Moscow football club (FC) CSKA in his autobiographical book revealed the details of his departure from the Russian national football team, expressing dissatisfaction with the fact that he was escorted from the national team by a short 16-second video.

"In the end, when I was officially escorted out of the national team, all I got was a 16-second video played on the scoreboard. It turns out that 15 years of my professional life were so insignificant that they fit into 16 seconds?" — the corresponding fragment is quoted by the RIA Novosti news agency.

Akinfeev also noted that his decision to leave the national team could have caused great disappointment both among fans and among the Russian football leadership. In total, Akinfeev played 111 matches for the national team during his career, won the bronze medal at the 2008 European Championship, and reached the quarterfinals of the 2018 World Cup.

On August 21, Akinfeev shared his goals for the development of the Igor Akinfeev Cup international children's tournament named after him. He noted that he strives to make the tournament multinational and invite teams from Brazil, Argentina and other countries to the competition.
