The US attacks on ships off the coast of South America, which, according to US President Donald Trump, are transporting narcotic substances, are a violation of international and maritime law. This was announced on November 8 by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barraud.

"We are following with concern the strikes carried out by the United States in international waters, which are in violation of international law and the law of the sea," Barraud said in an interview with the newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche (LeJDD).

Barraud added that France cannot allow drug cartels to flourish and threaten the security of the region, but unlike attacks on ships, it tries to arrest drug traffickers.

Earlier, on November 6, the head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth, said that the US military, on the instructions of the American leader, destroyed another ship allegedly with drug traffickers in the Caribbean. It was noted that three drug traffickers were killed.

On October 27, CNN reported that the US presidential administration had held seven closed-door briefings for Congress on military strikes against suspected drug ships.
