The leading actor of the Evgeny Vakhtangov Theater, People's Artist of the Russian Federation Vladimir Simonov was one of the most gifted actors of the troupe and was devoted to the stage and his profession all his life. Kirill Krok, the director of the theater, told Izvestia about this on November 9.
"Today we understand that one of the most gifted artists of our troupe has passed away, a man who was selflessly devoted to the cause of the Vakhtangov Theater, who devoted his whole life to serving this stage, played a huge number of roles," he said.
According to the director of the theater, Simonov had been experiencing heart problems for the past year, and he was in the hospital for several weeks. Kroc clarified that the last performances in which the actor played were "Uncle Vanya" and "The Wind is Rustling in the Poplars", which took place in June of this year.
Kroc also expressed the hope that the actor's sons, who are also involved in the Vakhtangov Theater troupe, Vasily and Vladimir Simonov, will continue their father's work. He stressed that men are just as talented as their father.
Kroc added that a farewell ceremony will be organized at the theater in the coming days.
Simonov's death at the age of 68 became known earlier that day. The cause of the actor's death was heart failure. Simonov is known for his filmography, which includes about 157 roles, including such famous films as "Dyatlov Pass", "Children of Arbat", "Single people are provided with a dormitory", "One love in a million" and "Psycho".
Shortly after, Danila Gnido, an actor at the Vakhtangov Theater, said that Simonov's death was a real disaster. He stressed that the actor had a special humor, irony for life and a strong love for the theater.
