At least 224 people died as a result of the passage of typhoon Kalmaegi in the Philippines. This was reported on November 9 by the GMA News Online portal with reference to the country's Civil Defense Office (OCD).

According to the ministry, the most deaths were registered in Cebu province — 158 people. 27 people were killed in Negros Occidental, 20 in Negros Oriental, eight in Caraga, three in Kapisa, two each in Leyte and South Leyte, and one each in the provinces of Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras and Bohol.

In addition, 109 people are missing, including 57 in Cebu, 42 in Negros Occidental and 10 in Negros Oriental.

The number of injured reached 526, of which 454 people were injured in Cebu, the OCD news website reports.

More than 150,000 people were evacuated in the Philippines on November 3 due to typhoon Kalmaegi, with authorities warning of torrential rains, winds and waves up to 3 m high. It was noted that villagers on the central island of Negros had also been warned that heavy rains could cause volcanic mudslides on the Kanlaon volcano, which has been spewing clouds of ash and steam in recent months.

On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos in connection with the victims and destruction caused by the typhoon.
