A South Korean court has sentenced a Russian tourist to six months probation for setting fire to a poplar fluff in a Seoul park. This was reported on October 30 by YTN TV channel with reference to representatives of the legal community.

According to investigators, the woman was walking in the park that day and, noticing poplar fluff on the ground, set it on fire with a lighter while intoxicated.

"The fire engulfed a 500-square-meter park area. The fire was extinguished after about an hour. At that moment, fluff covered the entire surface of the alley, and shrubs and fallen leaves were growing around, which created conditions for the rapid spread of fire, even from a small spark," the publication says.

The publication notes that, according to the court, the defendant understood the ease of ignition of poplar fluff, however, acting out of curiosity, she deliberately set it on fire, which can be considered an intentional act.

It is also emphasized that she was aware of the high risk of fire spreading, but did not take measures to extinguish it and fled the scene, thereby violating public safety and order.

Earlier, on August 28, South Korean police detained rapper PSY, known for the viral track Gangnam Style, on charges of illegally obtaining prescriptions for psychotropic drugs. Employees of the Seoul Sodemungu district police station suspect the singer of violating medical laws.
