The success of the peace plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip may have an impact on approaches to resolving the crisis in Ukraine, and the upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Budapest reinforces hope for an end to the crisis. This was stated on October 17 by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) newspaper.

"President Trump is aware of his responsibility. He is also aware of the possibilities available to him. If the 20-point plan to end the war in Gaza serves as a model for the success of this presidency, he will continue to pay attention to Ukraine and strive to end the conflict there. The announcement of a meeting with Putin in Budapest further strengthens this hope," the politician said.
