Rosrybolovstvo named the reasons for the increase in herring prices
The formation of herring prices is influenced by the cost of investments in the development of the industry, ensuring the operation of fishing vessels, increasing staff salaries, logistics, fish processing, as well as the key rate. A representative of Rosrybolovstvo told Izvestia about this on October 16.
According to him, wholesale prices for Pacific and Atlantic herring are currently declining. Rosrybolovstvo monitors the dynamics of prices for fish products, his representative assured.
Since the beginning of 2025, Russian fishermen have harvested about 470.5 thousand tons of herring, which is 25.6% more than in the same period a year earlier, the source said. Of these, the catch of herring in the Far Eastern Fisheries Basin amounted to 423.6 thousand tons, which is 26% more than in January – October 2024, he added.
The average consumer price of herring, the most popular fish in Russia, was 375 rubles per 1 kg by September, which is 28% more than a year earlier, Izvestia reported on October 15. At the same time, wholesale prices for this fish are decreasing: Atlantic herring in Central Russia has fallen in price in wholesale by 14%, to 185 rubles per 1 kg, according to the National Fish Resource. Since the beginning of the year, the retail price growth rate of this fish has been 9%, while the inflation rate for the same period was 4.29%.
The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) checks the validity of price changes for these goods, its representative told Izvestia. The FAS has sent requests to 37 fishing organizations in order to analyze information on primary processing and buyers, data on the volume of products sold, on the actual production and production volumes, sales and cost structure, he noted. If violations are detected, the FAS will take antimonopoly response measures, the agency's representative added.
