A court in Yerevan extended the arrest of businessman Samvel Karapetyan for 30 days. This was announced on October 16 by his lawyer Aram Vardevanyan, his message was posted on the portal's YouTube channel. 168.am .
"The court partially granted the prosecution's request, extending the arrest for 30 days," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
Karapetyan's detention became known on June 18. He was detained for publicly expressing disagreement with the attacks on the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC), which came from the country's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. On the same day, the Investigative Committee of Armenia sent a petition to the court for Karapetyan's detention. He was charged with calling for the seizure of power in Armenia. After that, he was arrested for two months. After that, on September 8, the Court of Appeal in Yerevan kept Karapetyan in custody, rejecting the defense's request.
Earlier that day, on October 15, Karapetyan's lawyer stated that the support of citizens plays a crucial role during the trial. According to him, despite difficult circumstances, public solidarity helps to maintain confidence and faith in justice.
