Szijjarto stated the importance of energy cooperation with Russia for Hungary
For Hungary, cooperation with Russia in the field of energy supply is of strategic importance. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said this on October 15, answering a question from Izvestia.
"It's all about a rational approach: rationally speaking, energy reserves from Russia are important for Hungary. That's why I don't like to give either ideological or political assessments. We have a problem with energy resources, and my task is to ensure their safe supply to the country. And without Russia, physically, it would have been impossible. So yes, cooperation with Russia is very important to us," Szijjarto said.
The minister also stated that the increase in the number of pipelines directly affects the security of energy supplies. As an example, he cited the situation in Serbia, where having only one supply route creates serious problems.
Szijjarto stressed the critical importance of the Druzhba pipeline for Hungary's energy security, noting that without it, the country would not be able to physically provide itself with fuel due to the lack of other infrastructure. He stated that any damage to this pipeline would be regarded as a threat to Hungary's national sovereignty, as energy security is an integral part of it.
The Foreign Minister expressed hope for the support of the European Union in ensuring energy supplies, but stated that at the moment Hungary does not feel significant assistance from its side.
