Former head of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan Ramiz Mehdiyev was placed under house arrest

Ramiz Mehdiyev, the former head of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan, has been placed under house arrest. He has been charged with several serious criminal counts, including high treason and attempted seizure of power. This was reported on October 14 by the Trend agency with reference to the investigative authorities.

According to the case file, Mehdiyev is charged under articles 278.1 ("Actions aimed at seizing state power"), 274 ("High treason") and 193-1.3.2 ("Legalization of property acquired by criminal means") of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

The Sabail District Court of Baku granted the request of the investigation and chose a preventive measure in the form of house arrest for a period of four months.

Ramiz Mehdiyev served as head of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan from 1995 to 2019, after which he headed the National Academy of Sciences until 2022.
