The situation in Madagascar continues to be tense due to anti-government protests on the island, which have been taking place since September 25. This was reported to Izvestia on October 13 at the Russian Embassy in the country.

"Although there have been no demonstrations today that would disperse law enforcement forces, nevertheless, the confrontation remains at the political level," the Russian diplomatic mission said.

They also clarified that there have been no recent requests from Russian citizens for assistance.

On October 11, it was reported that the President of Madagascar, Andri Radzuellina, could leave the capital of his state, Antananarivo, after the army refused to resist the demonstrators, which are attended by young people and students. However, Jeune Afrique magazine noted that this information is not confirmed.

On the same day, the Russian Embassy in the island state called on Russians, who earlier, on October 1, were advised to refrain from traveling to the republic, if they are in Madagascar, not to visit its capital. In addition, the Russian diplomatic mission urged to keep in touch with the embassy by phone in case of emergencies.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
