- In the United States, a suspect was arrested in the arson that led to the fire in Los Angeles.
Jonathan Rinderknecht, 29, has been arrested in the United States and is suspected of deliberately setting fire to the largest fire in Los Angeles history. This was announced on October 8 by Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Central California Bill Esseily.
"Rinderknecht started a fire in Pacific Palisades on New Year's Day <...> As a result, it turned into one of the most devastating fires in the history of Los Angeles, which led to deaths and widespread destruction," the prosecutor wrote on his page on the social network X (former. Twitter).
According to the prosecution, among the evidence collected from Rinderknecht's digital devices was an image of a burning city, which he created using the ChatGPT neural network.
"Although we cannot repair the damage and destruction caused, we hope that his arrest and charges will bring at least some justice to the victims of this terrible tragedy," Esseili said.
The first hearing in the Rinderknecht case is scheduled to take place today in the U.S. District Court in Orlando.
Numerous wildfires in Los Angeles began on January 7. A major natural disaster regime has been declared in connection with the fires in the state. More than 12.3 thousand buildings were destroyed.
On January 25, US President Donald Trump signed decrees to increase water supply to fire-affected areas of Los Angeles. The American leader noted that we are talking about "unlimited water" that comes from the west coast, partly from Canada.
