For the sixth time in recent weeks, the U.S. Senate has rejected two bills proposing to provide funding for the federal government, which is now partially suspended. The C-SPAN TV channel broadcast the meeting on October 8.

The document developed by the Republicans was approved by the House of Representatives. In a procedural vote, he received the support of 54 members of the Senate, 45 opposed. The second bill, introduced by the Democrats, was supported by 47 senators, 52 opposed.

For approval in the upper house of Congress, the initiative must be supported by at least 60 votes.

The initiative was proposed by both parties at once — the Republican and the Democratic.

Prior to that, on October 3, it was reported that Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives canceled a vote scheduled for October 7-10 on a bill to finance the government. The decision was made against the background of the ongoing shutdown.

At the same time, Fox News reported that the administration of US President Donald Trump was planning to lay off about 16,000 federal employees. The cuts will primarily affect infrastructure projects in regions controlled by the Democrats, which has already caused a split within the party before the 2026 elections.
