The ban on the transportation of non-halal products by Muslim couriers will lead to an increase in the cost of delivery, but a sharp increase in prices should not be expected. Anastasia Ptukha, marketing specialist, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and managing partner of the Step by Step group of companies, stated this in an interview with Izvestia on October 7.

"Large delivery services such as Yandex are already operating at a loss. That is, the amounts they pay to couriers do not pay off, and this is included in the cost of the goods. At the moment, this is being done in order to strengthen its position in the market and prevent small players from taking it," the marketer explained.

She noted that if the number of couriers is reduced, companies will probably have to pay the remaining employees more so that they continue to deliver non-halal goods.

The specialist also stressed that policy changes may lead to an increase in product margins, which in turn will lead to higher food prices. In her opinion, a significant sharp increase in prices should not be expected, since the market is stable, and most likely, companies will look for various ways to compensate for costs, including the use of tricks, for example, to adjust prices for goods that are purchased at low prices.

"It is unlikely that the market will accept a sharp increase in prices, since it is quite stable, and companies will look for ways to make the price acceptable to consumers," the marketer concluded.

On the same day, the Council of Ulama of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation (DUMA of the Russian Federation) decided to ban Muslim couriers from delivering prohibited goods. In particular, we are talking about alcohol, pork and meat that does not meet halal standards. Gambling, idols, objects of pagan worship, meat of animals killed in an illegal way, which contradicts Islam, were also banned.
