Malta, Taiwan, South Korea and Spain were among the top 3 countries with the lowest birth rate in the world by the end of 2024. This was confirmed on October 7 by the relevant data provided by RIA Novosti.

Thus, on average, there are 1.06 children per woman of reproductive age in Malta, 1.11 in Taiwan, and 1.12 in South Korea and Spain, which rounded out the top three.

Next on the list are Singapore (1.17), Lithuania (1.18), Poland (1.2), Italy (1.2), Ukraine (1.22) and Macau and Hong Kong (1.24).

The list of countries with a high birth rate includes mainly African States, and Niger topped it, with 6.64 children per inhabitant. He was not far behind Angola (5.7), Congo (5.49), Mali (5.35) and Benin (5.34). Chad (5.24), Uganda (5.17), Somalia (5.12), South Sudan (5.09) and Burgundy (4.9) also made the top 10.

At the same time, the Russian Federation is on the same level as Japan, Norway and Cyprus — on average, there are 1.4 children per woman in these countries.

On September 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his address to the participants of the plenary session "Demography 2.0. Reboot" of the VI Forum of Social Innovations of the Regions, called improving demography one of the priorities in the Russian Federation. He noted that all the country's resources are used to support the birth rate and improve the quality of life of Russians.
