- Bloomberg has learned about the increased security measures by the Venezuelan authorities at the US Embassy
Security measures at the US Embassy in Caracas have been tightened by the Venezuelan authorities after an attack on it by right-wing extremists was prevented. This was reported on October 6 by Bloomberg with reference to the Chairman of the Parliament of the Republic, Jorge Rodriguez.
"The Venezuelan government has announced that it has increased security measures around the US embassy in Caracas after uncovering an alleged plot to attack it. <...> Right—wing extremists planned to plant explosives in the building of the diplomatic mission," the publication says.
It is clarified that Rodriguez contacted representatives of European diplomatic missions staying in Venezuela about this and asked them to notify the American side of the measures imposed. According to the agency, the decision to introduce enhanced monitoring of the situation at the American Embassy building was made due to the tension that has recently been observed in relations between Washington and Caracas.
The head of the White House, Donald Trump, announced a day earlier that American troops had launched another strike on a ship off the coast of Venezuela, which was allegedly connected with the transportation of drugs. Earlier, also on October 5, Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth announced a missile attack on a ship that belonged to drug traffickers and was traveling in international waters off the coast of Venezuela.
On October 6, The New York Times (NYT) learned of Trump's order to stop trying to reach a peaceful settlement to the military escalation with Venezuela, as well as diplomatic contact. According to the publication, the American president announced this order during a meeting with senior military leaders.
