- Rospotrebnadzor has ruled out the spread of chikungunya fever in the Russian Federation
There are no risks of the spread of chikungunya fever in Russia, as there are no stable populations of vector mosquitoes within the country. This was reported on October 7 in Rospotrebnadzor.
"There is no epidemiological danger of the spread of chikungunya fever on the territory of the Russian Federation, since there are no stable populations of mosquito vectors, and climatic and environmental factors do not contribute to their reproduction and the constant transmission of the virus between humans and insects," the agency reports.
It is specified that imported cases do not lead to local circulation of the infection. But tourists should not forget to follow the safety rules in endemic regions.
On September 8, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, stated the importance of taking into account the risks of the deliberate introduction of plants, animals and microorganisms from unfriendly countries into Russia. He noted that the risks of biological threats should be taken into account along with the objective consequences of global climate change.
