Court bans websites selling Red Book turtle
The Cheremushkinsky District Court of Moscow granted the claim of the interdistrict environmental prosecutor to ban information and sale of the Mediterranean turtle listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation. This is stated in the case file, which was reviewed by Izvestia on October 4.
The announcement of the turtle sale will be blocked on the territory of the Russian Federation.
The court found that the information posted on the site about the sale of the red book animal violates the legislation on nature protection and encourages citizens to commit offenses. The decision notes that such ads promote the illegal trafficking of rare species of animals and violate the rights of an indefinite circle of people to a favorable environment.
The court took into account that the Mediterranean turtle is included in the list of wildlife listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation, and its sale is prohibited by law. Both administrative and criminal liability is provided for such actions.
The court's decision is subject to immediate execution.
On September 23, the Moscow court granted the prosecutor's office's claim and blocked websites selling a rare clam, the common pearl oyster. The court clarified that the materials on the blocked resources encouraged people to purchase animals that were prohibited in circulation. The dissemination of such information contradicts the objectives of the legislation on wildlife and hinders the provision of biological diversity.
