Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov may visit New York to attend key meetings of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) during the Russian presidency. This was announced on October 1 by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the organization Vasily Nebenzya.

"We expect it. It has not been confirmed yet, but we are looking forward to it (Lavrov. — ed.) participation," the diplomat said at a press conference.

Key meetings of the Security Council, during which open debates on the Middle East and the future of the United Nations are scheduled for October 23 and 24.

On October 1, Russia became the Chairman of the UN Security Council. It was noted that Russia would assume the presidency of South Korea and transfer its powers to Sierra Leone in one calendar month. The last time the Russian Federation coordinated the work of the UN Security Council was in July 2024.
