Lavrov discussed the development of partnership with the Foreign Ministers of Abkhazia and South Ossetia

At a meeting in Sochi, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed with Abkhaz Foreign Minister Oleg Bartsits and his South Ossetian counterpart Akhsar Dzhioev the implementation of high-level agreements and joint cooperation. The relevant information was published on the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry on October 1.

"During the talks, which took place in a traditionally friendly atmosphere, the general mood was emphasized to intensify joint work on the progressive development of alliance and partnership," the statement said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry clarified that Lavrov held bilateral meetings with colleagues and a conversation in a trilateral format. It is noted that the parties discussed the current agenda of bilateral relations between the countries and a number of international issues.

"The negotiations demonstrated a high level of mutual understanding and trust between the three countries and gave a significant impetus to the expansion of their cooperation," the ministry stressed.

Direct flights between the capitals are expected to open on May 1.

Earlier, on July 10, President of Abkhazia Badra Gunba, during a meeting with First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Sergey Kiriyenko, discussed the development of cooperation between Russia and Abkhazia, including in the fields of energy, taxation, and education.

On September 20, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia would continue to provide all possible assistance to South Ossetia in ensuring security and solving problems of socio-economic development. The Head of State expressed confidence that relations between Russia and South Ossetia will continue to develop on the basis of good neighborliness and alliance. The Russian President also congratulated President Alan Gagloev on Republic Day, calling this holiday a symbol of the courage and fortitude of the South Ossetian people.
