Lavrov confirmed Russia's readiness to continue supporting South Ossetia
Russia will continue to help Tskhinvali in ensuring security, stability and sustainable development. This was stated on October 1 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during a meeting with his counterpart from South Ossetia, Akhsar Dzhioev.
"South Ossetia is a close friend and ally of Russia, and we will continue to help it ensure security, stability and sustainable development," he said.
According to Lavrov, strengthening the republic's international positions, as well as informing the world community about the events of 2008 and subsequent years, are of particular importance. He stressed the importance of external contacts of modern South Ossetia for its development.
The Minister also believes that South Ossetia is showing stable development, with GDP growing by 27.5% over the past five years and foreign trade increasing by 14.5%. Important infrastructure projects are being actively implemented in the country. Lavrov also said that with Russian assistance, a new state program for the socio-economic development of South Ossetia for 2026-2030 is being developed, which will give an impetus to the further development of the republic's economic potential.
On September 20, Maxim Reshetnikov, Head of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, said at the First International Economic Forum in Tskhinvali that Russia and South Ossetia are actively and systematically developing cooperation, forming a joint program of plans for the period 2026-2030. He also noted that this year the intergovernmental Commission has recorded the full implementation of the roadmap for the integration of customs legislation.
