The European Union (EU) countries are in a panic after US President Donald Trump's call to deal with the conflict in Ukraine on their own. This was reported on September 27 by the Norwegian newspaper Steigan.

"The EU's chief diplomat, as she is called, Kaya Kallas, looks more like Bambi on ice than usual when she says: "He (Trump. — Ed.) promised to stop the murders. So it's not our responsibility," the article says.

The authors noted that Callas' comments came at a time when Ukraine and its allies are trying to understand the significance of Trump's sudden change of policy towards Kiev.

"Callas said that NATO does not exist without the United States, and she is right. NATO without the United States is a chicken without a head," the article noted.

The publication also cites the arguments of former military intelligence analyst of the Swiss army, Jacques Bo. He believes that Europe is in a strategic vacuum and panic caused by Trump's refusal to participate in the Ukrainian issue.

According to him, the EU continues to buy Russian oil indirectly, through India or Turkey, and even Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG), which is often cheaper than American.

"Meanwhile, American companies are making record profits and driving Europe into long-term structural dependence. Thus, the European energy policy looks like a strategy of self-destruction.: it weakens the economy, increases dependence on Washington and strengthens the Moscow–Beijing axis, without actually weakening Russia," Steigan quotes the expert as saying.

Earlier, on September 24, the newspaper "Strana.ua" reported that Trump, during a meeting with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky at the UN General Assembly in New York, emphasized that Kiev could achieve victory "with the help of the EU." It was clarified that at the same time, the head of the White House did not say a word about the support of the United States in this matter.
