On Saturday, September 27, US President Donald Trump instructed US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to provide troops to protect Portland from the antifa movement.

"I am instructing <...> Hegset to provide all necessary troops to protect war-ravaged Portland and all our besieged ICE facilities from attacks by antifa and other domestic terrorists," he wrote on his Truth Social network.
