Ambassador Kelin accused Britain of increasing tensions with Russia
British fighter jets over Poland are increasing tensions on Russia's western borders. This was announced on September 27 by Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrey Kelin.
"Such steps only increase tension on our western borders. Especially in light of the statements of the recently appointed Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper that British fighters are ready to resist Russian aviation," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Kelin emphasized that Cooper used the word "confront," which can mean "willingness to engage in combat," which raises questions about what exactly she meant. In addition, he called the incident with the UAV in Poland a fake pretext for escalation by the UK.
On September 22, British Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper announced the risk of a direct confrontation between Russia and NATO due to Russia's alleged violation of Estonian airspace.
On September 25, it was reported that the Polish authorities were considering changing legislation that would allow Polish military personnel to shoot down Russian UAVs over Ukraine without prior approval from NATO or the European Union (EU).
