A Russian woman was tricked into leaving Thailand for Myanmar to work in a call center.

The Russian woman was tricked out of Thailand and transported to Myanmar, where, apparently, she was intended to be used for forced labor in fraudulent call centers. This was announced on September 26 by Russian Ambassador to Thailand Evgeny Tomikhin.

"At the moment, the embassy has reliable information about a Russian citizen who was fraudulently taken from Thailand to Myanmar in early September for alleged forced labor in notorious call centers," Tomikhin was quoted as saying by TASS.

It is clarified that the Russian woman was attracted by an offer to work as a model in Thailand, received through an anonymous Telegram channel, and this is what prompted her to travel. Currently, the connection with her is lost. The last time her mother spoke to her was two days after she arrived in Myanmar. Tomikhin stressed that the embassy is taking all necessary measures to save her.

"The Embassy is taking a set of measures <...> within the framework of the already developed algorithm of actions in previous similar cases.<...> Call centers are located on the territory of a neighboring state in places remote from the capital. If we receive signals from the Myanmar side that we can pick up a citizen, an embassy employee will immediately leave for the Thai–Myanmar border," he added.

Tomikhin urged Russian citizens planning a trip to Thailand to carefully study job offers, check their sources and ways of obtaining them, and collect additional information if possible.

On July 14, the press service of the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Moscow Region reported that two men and a woman suspected of kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment had been detained in the region. It was clarified that the criminals tied up the victim and held him on a chain in a utility room, extorting money.
