Turkey calls on FIFA and UEFA to ban Israel from football tournaments
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has called on the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to ban Israel from participating in international tournaments.
It is noted that the corresponding request was sent by the President of the Turkish Federation Ibrahim Hadjiosmanoglu.
"Despite the fact that the sports world and football organizations position themselves as defenders of civilized values and peace, they have remained on the sidelines for too long. It's time for FIFA and UEFA to act. Israel should be immediately suspended from all sports competitions," Fanatik newspaper quoted him as saying on September 26.
Hadjiosmanoglu also called Israel's conflict in Gaza illegal and contrary to the values of sporting events, which are designed to consolidate society and cultures in the world.
The day before, it became known that the United States is working to prevent the Israeli national team from being suspended from the 2026 FIFA World Cup due to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
On September 21, it was reported that UEFA may decide to suspend Israeli clubs and the national team from participating in tournaments under its auspices. However, on September 24, UEFA decided not to suspend Israeli football clubs from participating in European competitions.
