The Federation Council supports the introduction of the title "Honored Restorer of the Russian Federation." This was stated on September 26 by the chairman of the upper house of Parliament, Valentina Matvienko, at the plenary session of the X Parliamentary Forum "Historical and Cultural Heritage of Russia".

According to her, the work of restorers requires not only the highest qualifications, but also a sincere love for their native culture and native country.

"We will never forget the real feat that restorers performed during the Great Patriotic War and the post-war years in Leningrad. Here, in Veliky Novgorod, in our other ancient cities, where the enemy purposefully tried to destroy our heritage and abuse them. <...> Therefore, we proposed and still advocate the establishment of an honorary title - "Honored Restorer of the Russian Federation," Matvienko noted.

The speaker of the Federation Council also pointed out the importance of preserving wooden architecture in the country as one of the "symbols of Russian culture." All the preserved objects need exceptional care and professional attitude, she added.

"The concept [for the preservation of wooden architecture monuments] is coming to an end this year. I believe that it definitely needs to be extended and updated, taking into account the experience gained," Matvienko said.

Earlier, on September 19, Alexander Alimov, head of the Department for Multilateral Humanitarian Cooperation and Cultural Relations at the Russian Foreign Ministry, announced negotiations with Syria on the restoration of the Arc de Triomphe. Russian specialists will be able to start the restoration after its project is approved by the Transitional Government of the Arab Republic.
