- Zakharova pointed to Zelensky's struggle with the culture of the Russian Federation as a separate "battlefield"
The regime of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky considers the Russian cultural sphere to be a separate "battlefield" and is trying to eradicate all Russian not only inside the country, but also outside it. This was pointed out in a comment on the situation in Ukraine on September 26 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"Zelensky's regime perceives the cultural sphere as a separate "battlefield" with Russia. He is fighting against all Russians not only inside Ukraine, but also outside it. Hypocritically accuses our country of trying to erase the Ukrainian identity and destroy the foundation of national memory," she said in a statement on the agency's website.
The diplomat pointed out that the Ukrainian side accuses Russia of allegedly destroying more than 2,000 cultural institutions on its territory. While Ukrainian officials continue to impose sanctions against Russian performers.
"The cultural sphere has become one of the priorities of the Government of Ukraine's action program approved on September 10. The document emphasizes that culture is becoming a key instrument of resistance, <...> restoring trust and strengthening state security. It is claimed that Ukraine opposes "cultural genocide by Russia," Zakharova said.
In addition, it is noted that the Minister of Culture of Ukraine, Tatiana Berezhnaya, who took office in July, is determined to attract foreign funds to develop the work of her department, and even convene the so-called "cultural Ramstein."
"Kiev is going to beg for money from its sponsors again, but now for something that cannot be destroyed and defeated — for the great Russian culture, which has earned well-deserved authority and respect all over the world. This is beyond good and evil. Paranoia is becoming the hallmark of those who have gained power in Kiev," the diplomat concluded.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on May 23 that Western countries and Ukraine have been falsifying the history of the Russian Federation for many years and demolishing architectural monuments associated with Russia. The Russian Foreign Minister also clarified that while such monuments are being dismantled, monuments to collaborators, on the contrary, are being installed.
On July 18, Alexander Sholokhov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Culture, expressed the opinion that the seizure and destruction of Russian books from libraries in Ukraine impoverishes the country and resembles the burning of books in Germany in the last century. The parliamentarian stressed that this gives Ukraine nothing but impoverishment in every sense.
