The State Duma proposed labeling products to combat an indirect increase in their price

The initiative to combat stealth inflation (hidden increase in the cost of goods) through mandatory labeling of such products was sent for consideration to Rospotrebnadzor. This was announced on September 26 by Boris Chernyshov, Deputy Speaker of the State Duma from the Liberal Democratic Party.

"I ask you to consider the possibility of strengthening control measures against food manufacturers, in which it is proposed to pay special attention not only to weight and volume compliance, but also to checking the declared composition of products, identifying cases of unjustified cheaper formulations," RIA Novosti quotes the content of his appeal to the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova.

It is noted that Chernyshov proposed to clearly and prominently place information about the modified recipe on the product packaging, which, in his opinion, will increase consumer awareness and not deprive them of the opportunity to make an informed purchase.

According to information published on the website of the lower house, which was reviewed by Izvestia on September 8, a bill on the introduction of a "fair check" was submitted to the State Duma. It means that if the price at the checkout is higher than on the price tag, the product is given out free of charge. Deputies of the New People party worked on the development of the text of the document.
