Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres discussed topical issues of the organization's reform during a meeting on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (GA). This was reported on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry on September 26.

"The current issues of reforming the World Organization in the context of the UN-80 Secretary General's initiative were considered," the publication says.

According to Lavrov, the transformations should be of a balanced nature, as well as ensure the preservation of the UN's institutional foundations and the "division of labor" between the organization's bodies. The Foreign Minister added that Member States should strictly monitor the implementation of the reform.

On September 17, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for the reform of the UN Security Council, removing the realities of 1945. He stressed that he would consider proposals from France and the United Kingdom to limit the right of veto in cases where massive human rights violations occur.
