The expert warned about the danger of untimely change of car tires
Switching to winter tires too early or, conversely, too late can lead to serious consequences for the car and the driver's safety. Nikolay Pogulyaev, the owner and head of the FIT SERVICE car service, told Izvestia on September 26 about the threat of both scenarios.
According to the expert, riding on summer tires in winter completely deprives the car of traction properties. In such conditions, the car cannot move normally, and in the case of movement, critical braking and steering problems arise, which inevitably leads to accidents.
"If the driver is a little delayed with the "overshooting", then the scenario will be the same as described above. If it's cold outside and there's ice on the road, and the car is running on summer tires, then it's better to avoid traveling altogether. Travel around the city by public transport, taxi or carsharing. It's much safer for people, and the car will be safer," the specialist advised.
As a last resort, when driving to the tire repair, it is necessary to double the distance, reduce the speed to a minimum and avoid sudden maneuvers.
Premature installation of winter tires, in turn, has minimal negative consequences compared to driving out of season. A few days or even a week of using winter tires on dry asphalt will not cause critical harm.
Moreover, for new studded tires, a warm period can be useful for rolling in, the main thing at this time is to move carefully, without slipping and sudden maneuvers.
However, too early a transition — two to three weeks before persistent cold weather - will accelerate the wear of expensive tires due to their softer structure, which begins to wear out intensively on warm asphalt.
The expert recalled that the guideline for changing tires should not be the weather, but the average daily temperature. As soon as it steadily reaches the +5 mark...+7 degrees, you can go for tire service. A slight advance in the cold snap is not as scary as a delay, but you should not rush too much either.
Earlier, on August 20, an auto expert said that engine oil, which is sold for bottling from a barrel, is not inferior in quality to oil from a canister. Nevertheless, buyers of such oil risk facing a lack of guarantees of product authenticity and compliance with storage standards in non-certified services.
