Toyota has announced the launch of the "city of the future" in Japan
Toyota has announced the arrival of the first residents in the new Woven City, which is located in Shizuoka Prefecture at the foot of Mount Fuji. The city will become a testing ground for mobile technologies, the company's press service announced on September 25.
The residents of Toyota Woven City are divided into two categories. "Inventors" develop and test new products and services, such as enterprises, startups, and researchers. The "weavers" get acquainted with their developments and give feedback.
At the first stage, the number of "Inventors" was 20 people, among them the first was the Japanese composer and singer Naoto Inti Raimi, who developed the Woven City anthem. The number of "Weavers" in the first phase of the project is planned to increase to 300 people, the first of whom were Toyota employees, who began to move in in September. The honorary title of "Master Weaver" went to the head of Toyota Akio Toyoda.
Woven City will feature a well-developed "smart" transport system with autonomous technologies and the division of roads into different levels (for pedestrians and/or means of individual mobility, as well as for vehicles).
The projects that the Inventors will be involved in include, for example, finding new ways to improve the coexistence of humans and pets; developing soundscapes; conducting experimental research to demonstrate the impact of coffee on creativity and productivity; smart logistics and autonomous transport technologies; innovative educational methods and new learning environments.
On September 15, Toyota unveiled in Japan a new electric vehicle, the e-Palette, a multi-purpose minibus designed for various transportation tasks. The price of the new product is ¥29 million (more than 16 million rubles in translation). The e-Palette electric car will become one of the key components of the Woven City project.
