The United States is negotiating with the leaders of the G7 and the European Union (EU) on the application of broader trade measures to prevent a fall in prices for rare earths. This was reported on September 25 by the Reuters news agency, citing sources.

"Officials are considering the possibility of setting minimum prices, supported by government subsidies that the United States recently introduced to stimulate domestic production. Australia is separately considering the possibility of setting minimum pricing to support projects for the extraction of critically important minerals, including rare earths," the article says.

According to sources, Canada supported the idea of setting minimum prices for rare earths, but did not commit to this step. The G7 countries are now actively considering various ideas for applying trade measures on rare earths, no decisions have been made yet.

On August 26, Bloomberg reported on the discussion between Canada and Germany of an initiative that includes supply chains of important minerals, including nickel, cobalt, graphite and rare earths. It was clarified that the demand for them has been growing significantly in recent years, so ensuring supplies has become one of the main priorities of governments.
