Avakian's lawyer told about the last conversation with his client
Konstantin Tarasenko, the lawyer of Boris Avakian, an ex-official of the Federal Property Management Agency, told Izvestia on September 24 that his client did not escape from the courtroom, but went about his business, since his status was not determined at that time. The last time the lawyer and his client talked was around 3 a.m.
"We talked about his future defense strategy in the criminal case," Tarasenko said.
According to the defender, the information that Avakian asked the military police convoy to smoke in order to escape is invalid. The lawyer noted that Avakian had already been told in court that he was not a military man, and his contract had already been terminated.
"When he was brought in, he was told in court that he was not a military man, which means that the military police had no legitimate reason to escort him," Tarasenko said.
Earlier, on September 23, Avakian escaped during a court hearing under the pretext of "going out for a smoke." It was reported that the accused had taken refuge in the Armenian Consulate. The ex-official is accused of evading customs duties in the amount of over 4.2 billion rubles.
On September 24, the ex-official was found dead in the consulate. It was clarified that he went into the toilet and did not open the door. Then the staff called the security services. After rescuers opened the door, Avakian was found unconscious. The ambulance staff pronounced him dead.
