Szijjarto pointed to the EU's attempts to ban him from communicating with Russia and Belarus at the UN.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Tuesday, September 23, that every year in Brussels they try to ban him from communicating with delegations from Russia and Belarus at the session of the United Nations General Assembly (UN).

"Every year we (Hungary. They say not to meet with Russians, not to meet with Belarusians, not to meet with one, not to meet with the other, but I say that no one from Brussels can tell me who to meet with and who not, because I am the foreign minister of the sovereign Hungarian government, sovereign Hungary." According to Szijjarto, neither the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, nor any other Brussels politician "can tell him what to do." He added that he always represents Hungary's national interests and uses the UN platform to maintain diplomatic relations.
