The new comet Lemmon will approach the Earth as close as possible on October 21 this year. This was announced on September 23 at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAS.

"In 10 days, on October 3, the celestial body will be located 150 million km away, and on October 21 it will pass at a minimum distance of less than 90 million km from Earth," the laboratory wrote on its Telegram channel.

It is noted that the comet is rapidly gaining its brightness, and in 10-14 days it will reach the fifth magnitude, which will allow observing the celestial body in the starry sky through binoculars.

Earlier, on September 3, it was reported that an asteroid the size of the Chelyabinsk meteorite approached the Earth at a minimum distance. The object was first spotted two weeks ago, on August 18, and until that moment, scientists had not known anything about it. According to experts, the asteroid is comparable in size to the Chelyabinsk meteorite that fell on February 15, 2013.
