The EU countries, as part of the 19th package of sanctions, want to ban European firms from investing in Russia's special economic zones. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on September 23.

On September 19, the European Commission proposed imposing sanctions on 45 Russian and foreign companies as part of the 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions. It is noted that the new package will include a ban on investments in Russian special economic zones (SEZs) related to the conflict in Ukraine. The EC also proposed to introduce a complete ban on the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Russian Federation by January 2027. At the same time, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, announced the EU's intention to impose restrictions on the Russian Mir payment system.
