Moscow court bans sale of red book clams
The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow granted the prosecutor's office's claim and blocked websites selling a rare clam, the common pearl oyster. This is evidenced by the case materials, which were reviewed by Izvestia on September 22.
The common or European pearl oystercatcher is a species of endangered bivalve mollusks listed in the Red Book of Russia. Pearl oystercatchers can be found in fresh streams and rivers of the countries of the Northern Hemisphere.
The court clarified that the materials on the blocked resources encouraged people to purchase animals that were prohibited in circulation. The dissemination of such information contradicts the objectives of the legislation on wildlife and hinders the provision of biological diversity.
On September 21, State Duma deputy Sergei Kolunov announced that Russians would be fined up to 4,000 rubles for picking mushrooms in nature reserves, national parks and other protected areas. It was noted that when collecting mushrooms, which are listed in the Red Book of Russia, the crime will be assessed according to art. 260.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
