Senator Pushkov pointed to the growing gap between Merz's goals and the interests of the people of Germany.

Confidence in German Chancellor Friedrich Merz among the country's ordinary population is rapidly declining amid the fact that he does not give up the idea of taking revenge on Russia, while most Germans want to live in safety. This opinion was expressed on September 21 by Alexey Pushkov, Chairman of the Federation Council Commission on Information Policy.

"Merz can't convince the Germans of his good work in any way. <...> Merz wants revenge on Russia, but the overwhelming majority of Germans want security and well-being. And the gap between his goals and the interests of citizens is only growing," the senator said in his Telegram channel.

Pushkov noted that it is important for the German Chancellor to "fanatically support Ukraine," obey Brussels, continue to impose sanctions against Russia, and strengthen the country's military industry. Although the people of Germany are concerned about problems closer to themselves.

"They are increasingly concerned about uncontrolled migration, terrorist attacks and violence by so—called refugees, rising prices for heating and electricity, the closure of enterprises and the stagnation of the economy," said the member of the Federation Council.

The Bild newspaper on September 20, referring to the results of a survey by the INSA sociological institute, indicated that in Germany the number of people dissatisfied with the work of Chancellor Merz's government has increased to record levels — more than 60% of the population. Only 27% of the respondents were satisfied with the work of the Cabinet of Ministers. Another 59% of Germans expressed dissatisfaction with the actions of the Chancellor himself, while only 29% were satisfied with his work.
