WP reported on increased security measures at Charlie Kirk's funeral
Security measures at the Charlie Kirk Memorial in Phoenix will be comparable to those typical for funerals of heads of state and Super Bowls. This was reported on September 21 by The Washington Post.
According to the US Department of Homeland Security, the event, which combines a funeral ceremony and a political rally, will be held at the State Farm stadium in Arizona with a capacity of 63,000 people, with additional seats in the neighboring arena.
"This location is reserved for events of the highest national importance and allows the federal government to provide the full range of law enforcement and security resources needed to support local authorities," the material says.
US President Donald Trump, Vice President Jay D. Vance and five cabinet ministers will speak at the event. From 500 to 800 Secret Service personnel, as well as federal, state and local services, will be involved in the protection, the article emphasizes.
The memorial is organized by the political wing of Turning Point USA and will include voter registration campaigns, fundraising, and musical performances.
Political activist Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated during his speech at the University of Utah, died on September 10. He played a key role in the victory of American President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
On September 16, suspect Tyler Robinson was formally charged with capital murder and intentionally or knowingly causing Kirk's death in circumstances that pose a significant risk of death to others. He appeared in court for the first time via video link on September 17. During the entire hearing, he spoke only once, when the judge asked him to introduce himself.
