The ISU told about the melody for awarding Russians in a neutral status
The tune, which was played at the award ceremony for the winner from Russia, Adelia Petrosyan, at the Olympic qualification tournament in Beijing, was recently created and does not yet have an official name. This was announced on September 21 by the International Skating Union (ISU).
"This is a new piece of music created recently. <...> It does not have a name yet," the ISU said in response to a question from RIA Novosti.
Representatives of the union suggested that people could not recognize the melody precisely because of its novelty. It is noted that this composition is not an ISU anthem. The media service of the tournament organizing committee was also unable to name the song.
Sport-Express clarifies that the ISU wanted to create a unique melody for all athletes competing in a neutral status.
On the eve, Honored coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova called Petrosyan's victory in the selection for the 2026 Olympics grandiose. Tarasova added that the athlete made it possible for Russia to participate in single skating at the Olympic Games.
On the same day, ISU posted on the social network a video recording of a fragment of a short program performed by Russian figure skater Pyotr Gumennik, which was overlaid with a song in Ukrainian. Some time later, the organization deleted its video and put on the original excerpt of Humennik's program with the music that the skater uses in the short program — the soundtrack from the movie "The Perfumer. The story of a murderer."
On September 19, the president of the International Skating Union (ISU), Chae Yel Kim, explained the admission of Russian figure skaters in a neutral status by saying that the organization did not want to discriminate against Russians based on their passports.
On August 20, the ISU published on its official website the list of participants in the qualifying tournament for figure skaters for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Among the Russian figure skaters, Petrosyan and Pyotr Gumennik were admitted to the qualifying tournament. Alina Gorbacheva and Vladislav Dikidzhi are going to the selection as substitutes. Sports and dance couples were not allowed to participate in the competition. The skaters will compete in a neutral status. Humennik is also in the lead after the short program at the Olympic qualification tournament in Beijing.
