An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 occurred off the coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula. This was reported on September 21 by the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Center "Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences".

It is specified that the incident was recorded at 04:13 Moscow time at a distance of 180 km from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The seismic event was located at a depth of 25 km.

Earlier that day, 42 aftershocks of magnitude up to 5.8 were recorded in Kamchatka. It is noted that scientists are recording the activity of volcanoes Kambalny, Bezymyanny, Shiveluch, Klyuchevsky, Karymsky and Krasheninnikov.

On September 19, an earthquake of magnitude 5.9 was recorded in Kamchatka. The depth of the seismic event was 18.7 km. The epicenter of the earthquake was recorded 192 km south-east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
