- Balitsky announced the rescue of the IAEA staff during the attack on the nuclear power plant
On September 20, the head of the Zaporizhia region, Yevgeny Balitsky, reported on saving the lives of employees of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at the time of the attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP).
He noted that despite this, the IAEA had provided only brief reports confirming the normal radiation background at the station.
"Where is the IAEA now? Their specialists work on the territory of the Zaporizhia NPP, and during the recent drone attack they were evacuated, ensuring their safety — nothing threatens their lives. But do we hear loud statements from the agency? No, just brief reports on the stability of the radiation background. Where is the strong condemnation? Why don't we hear urgent calls to stop the shelling of the station? Are political considerations really above the safety of millions of residents?" wrote Balitsky in his Telegram channel.
In addition, the governor expressed the opinion that double standards have become commonplace in Western countries.
"There is a situation where it is possible to bomb a nuclear power plant, while remaining a "victim" in the eyes of Western countries. When war crimes go unnoticed only because of the beneficial side. The international media are forced to keep silent in favor of the IAEA, which acts as an illegal organization," Evgeny Balitsky added.
On September 20, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the building of the training center (UTC), building "G" on the territory of the NPP with the help of drones. At the same time, the IAEA experts were in the UTC complex at the time of the attack. They were evacuated and taken to a safe place where their lives and health are not in danger.
On September 17, Balitsky stated that the systematic artillery shelling of the territory of the NPP by the Ukrainian Armed Forces threatens a nuclear catastrophe, the consequences could affect the whole world. He also noted that Kiev's actions can be considered as nuclear blackmail, which requires condemnation from the world community.
