ISU posted and deleted a video clip of Humennik's rental for a Ukrainian song
On September 20, the International Skating Union (ISU) posted on a social network a video recording of a fragment of a short program performed by Russian figure skater Pyotr Gumennik, on which a song in Ukrainian was superimposed.
The recording appeared on the ISU's Instagram page (owned by Meta, a company that is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation), in which the Russian's rental was accompanied by the song "Crying" by the Ukrainian band KAZKA.
Some time later, the organization deleted its video and put on the original excerpt of Humennik's program with the music that the skater uses in the short program — the soundtrack from the movie "The Perfumer. The story of a murderer."
The ISU soon apologized for the incident, noting that the organization would try to eliminate similar situations in the future.
"ISU apologizes for the inappropriate choice of music in a recent post on social media dedicated to Peter Gumennik's performance. The post has been deleted, and we regret any possible insults," the organization's press service quoted TASS as saying.
On September 20, the ISU published the official list of participants in the qualifying tournament for figure skaters for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. Among the Russian skaters, Adelia Petrosyan and Peter Gumennik were allowed to qualify for the qualifying tournament, with Alina Gorbacheva and Vladislav Dikidzhi as substitutes. At the same time, it became known that Humennik was in the lead after the short program at the Olympic qualification tournament in Beijing. He scored 93.80 points for his rental.
