The administration of US President Donald Trump has appealed to the Supreme Court with a request to issue a ruling that would deprive more than 300,000 migrants from Venezuela of temporary protection. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on September 19.

"The Department of Justice has appealed to the Supreme Court to suspend the decision of a federal judge in San Francisco that the administration unlawfully stopped granting temporary protected status to Venezuelans," the publication says.

Trump's lawyer John Sauer noted that the Supreme Court's ruling in May, after which 350,000 Venezuelans lost their protective status, should be applied in the current case, Politico writes.

Earlier, on September 15, it was reported that Trump threatened to impose a state of emergency due to the authorities' refusal to cooperate in the resettlement of illegal migrants. According to him, the mayor of the District of Columbia, Muriel Bowser, along with the Democrats, said that the Metropolitan Police Department would no longer cooperate with the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement on the expulsion and resettlement of dangerous illegal migrants.
